Hennie is well known for his traditional works like Harvesters and Fynbos Pickers. As fynbos only grows in this region, it makes for meaningful subject matter.

About Hennie Niemann Snr

Hennie was born in 1941 and grew up independently as the only boy among four sisters. He always had an intense interest in art, spending hours looking at framed art and art books. As a child, he experimented with different media, even using cereal boxes to draw on.

He qualified as a teacher in 1964. After 19 years of teaching, he moved to Onrus to pursue art full-time. Gregoire Boonzaier, whose influence is seen in Hennie's work, encouraged this move. They often painted together.
