Carol Bryant
Wildlife in Bronze & Resin. Currently showing at Benguela Cove, Hermanus, 2 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.
British wildlife sculptor Carol Bryant has studied African wildlife across Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, Namibia and England, in the wild and in conservation settings, including a spell volunteering with cheetah and wild dogs at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre near Pretoria. She works in bronze and in resin finished to read as bronze, and what separates the work is anatomy: these are animals caught in real movement, at the moment the weight shifts, rather than posed.
Visit, Reflect and Experience
Her portrait bust of Archbishop Desmond Tutu is at St George's Cathedral in Cape Town. An edition of it is included in this exhibition.
Twenty works are placed along the walk through the winery precinct at Benguela Cove, free to all estate visitors, from 2 October 2026 to 31 March 2027. Every piece is available to purchase, from smaller studies at R22,500 to statement bronzes for a garden or an entrance hall at up to R201,500. A private view with the artist runs on Saturday 3 October.

Wildlife in Bronze & Resin
About Carol Bryant, Sculptor
Carol Bryant is a British animal sculptor whose work begins not in the studio, but in the field. Over decades of travel across Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Namibia, she has studied Africa's big predators (cheetah, leopard, lion, buffalo and the African wild dog) both in the wild and at close range at conservation centres. She has volunteered with cheetah and wild dogs at the Ann van Dyk Cheetah Centre at Hartbeespoort near Pretoria: a direct, physical acquaintance with her subjects that gives her sculpture its particular quality. These animals are not imagined. They are remembered.
Her sculptures are built from clay and Plastolene before being cast in bronze or iron resin, produced in limited editions. The result is work that holds the weight and warmth of the original modelling; tactile, precise, and alive in a way that photography cannot be. Her range extends beyond Africa to the wildlife of the English countryside (deer, hares, birds) as well as commissioned portraits of domestic animals in both sculpture and pastel.
Her most significant single commission is the portrait bust of Archbishop Desmond Tutu, undertaken for the Archbishop personally and completed under the mentorship of sculptor Luke Shepherd. Cast in bronze in a limited edition of fifteen, it is now mounted beside his grave in St George's Cathedral, Cape Town, a permanent memorial to one of South Africa's most revered figures, and a work that speaks to Bryant's gift for capturing character in three dimensions.
She trained at Sunningwell School of Art in Oxfordshire and continued her studies with Rosamund de Tracy Kelly ARBS. A member of the Oxford Sculptors Group and Surrey Sculpture Society, her recent exhibitions include Leonardslee Lakes & Gardens, West Sussex, and Sculpture at Beaulieu, Palace House, Hampshire (summer 2025). She lives and works in the New Forest.

The Exhibition
Where the Wild Things Come to Rest
From October 2026, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate will be home to an extraordinary outdoor sculpture exhibition by British wildlife artist Carol Bryant. Twenty bronze and resin works placed across the estate, from the lagoon's edge to the fynbos walk, the restaurant terrace to the villa gardens.
These are not sculptures in a gallery. They inhabit the landscape as their subjects inhabited the wild, with stillness, with presence, with the feeling that they have always belonged here.
All works are available for purchase throughout the six-month exhibition.

A Fully Sensory Experience
Every sense engaged. Deliberately.
Benguela Cove is built around the meeting of land and sea; a place where every element of the guest experience is chosen with intention. The Carol Bryant exhibition adds an extra dimension to this world-class destination.
01 Sight
The lagoon, the light off Walker Bay, sculptures at dusk in the fynbos.
02 Taste
Award-winning cool-climate wines from Johann Fourie's cellar.
03 Scent
Salt air from the bay, fynbos on the breeze, the mineral character of Walker Bay terroir.
04 Sound
The lagoon in motion, the birdlife of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve.
05 Touch
Bronze invites a hand. It has weight, temperature, texture. Carol Bryant's sculptures give this place its fifth dimension.
Carol's sculptures add something that wine alone cannot: the invitation to stop, to look closely, to reach out a hand. Her African subjects feel entirely at home in this landscape, and that is exactly the point." - Penny Streeter OBE, Owner & CEO, Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate
