Learn more about André Peypers

South African-born and graduated in fine arts at the Natal Technicon in 1990.

In 2005, André was privileged to be invited by the Alette Wessels Art Gallery in Brooklynn, Pretoria. This was a "big deal" for Peypers as the gallery's focus was on old masters and established artists. Peypers' first solo exhibition turned out to be a massive success, with an 80% sell-out on the opening night.

Artistic Style: André Peypers' Unique Approach

André Peypers' artistic style is characterised by a soft-focused, detailed portrayal of African fauna and flora. His large canvases serve as windows into nature's wonders, capturing intricate details with precision reminiscent of a powerful zoom lens.

Peypers' paintings are a symphony of colours, light, and shadows intertwining harmoniously. By isolating his subjects from their natural environment, he invites viewers to immerse themselves in the finer details often overlooked amidst competing backgrounds.

The viewer's interaction with Peypers' artwork goes beyond mere observation. It prompts physical movement—forward, left, and right—creating an immersive experience that transcends traditional static viewing.

Exploring André Peypers' Zebra Studies

Peypers' zebra studies are a testament to his meticulous approach. Each composition is meticulously crafted from single photographs, capturing the mesmerising patterns of these creatures as they would appear in their natural habitat.

Upon closer inspection, Peypers' zebras reveal a dynamic interplay of focus and motion. Some figures appear deliberately blurred, while others draw the eye with exquisite detail, particularly in the eyes, each imbued with its own personality.

On average, André Peypers dedicates approximately 150 hours to each zebra painting, a testament to his unwavering commitment to his craft.
